November LCT Newsletter & Demo

Exciting news: Nick Agar is our November demonstrator. Saturday, November 21, 2020 from 10:30 a.m. till 12:30. This live demo will be conducted in the Blacksmith Shop on the property of the very historic Georgia State Railroad Museum, 655 Louisville Road, Savannah, GA.

An entrance fee to the Museum property is required if you are not a member of the Coastal Heritage Society. The entrance fee for non-members is $11. Our next several demos will be conducted on Saturdays so please consider purchasing an annual membership for only $45.

LCT March Meeting – Please Read

LCT Members & Friends,

The Lowcountry Turners demo scheduled for Thursday, March 26th has been cancelled.

At this time no decision has been made regarding our scheduled April 30th demo or the May Ashley Harwood demos and workshop.

We should have a decision regarding these demos within a couple of weeks.

February 2020 LCT Meeting & Demo

February’s demo will be 6:00 p.m., Thursday, February 27 at the Georgia State Railroad Museum, 655 Louisville Road, Savannah. Dan Lee will be turning a small hollow vessel with brass inlay on the shoulder of the vessel. The vessel will be turned from Hurricane Irma Bradford pear. Come on out to see an interesting and informative demonstration.

January 2020 LCT Meeting & Demo

Frank Anson is our January demonstrator. 6:00 p.m. Thursday, January 30th at our shop in the Georgia State Railroad Museum, 655 Louisville Road, Savannah.

 

Frank is an outstanding turner specializing in larger segmented turnings. His work is available for purchase in several galleries in South Carolina and North Carolina. He recently took a class at the John C. Campbell Folk School and will be sharing with us how to make some of the gift & ornament type items that were created during the class.

December 2019 LCT Meeting – Holiday Social

December’s meeting – 6:00 p.m. Thursday, December 12 – will be a social event including coffee, soft drinks, pizza and our instant gallery. Please bring in some of your favorite pieces and any stories you would like to share with the group. We will also have an  optional “Secret Santa” gift exchange . There is no obligation to bring a gift, but if you have turned something small that you would like to swap put it in a brown paper bag and bring it with you. Everyone participating will get to select one gift from among the others participating. This should be a lot of fun.

November 2019 LCT Meeting & Demo

Our next demo will be 6:00 p.m. Thursday, November 21st at the Georgia State Railroad Museum, 655 Louisville Road, Savannah. Doug McCulloch is our demonstrator. Doug’s work is currently on display at the Signature Gallery in Savannah’s City Market. Doug will bring in pieces to discuss and go through a brief slide show of various turned pieces (mostly not his own) that are good and not so good discussing the strengths and weaknesses of the designs. He will then turn a vessel and a bowl (time permitting) and discuss design tips and the small details that make a pleasing form.

October 2019 LCT Meeting & Demo

Next demo: Mark Sillay – 6:00 p.m. Thursday, October 24, 2019 at the Georgia State Railroad Museum, 655 Louisville Road, Savannah. Mark will be demonstrating how to make fine and precise finials with no torn grain. He will also show us ways to take advantage of sap wood in bowls (including a natural edge bowl) and hollow forms. As always, he would be happy to answer any questions and help with any problems our members are having.
