September 2019 LCT Meeting / Demo

September’s demo will be 6:00 p.m. MONDAY, September 23rd at the Georgia State Railroad Museum, 655 Louisville Road, Savannah. Our demonstrator is internationally renowned woodturning artist and instructor, Stuart Batty. Originally from England, Stuart now resides in Boulder, Colorado. Stuart has taught classes and conducted many hundreds of demonstrations all over the world. His art is sold in galleries in the US and England. His work can be found in permanent collections including the White House. Stuart has developed a program called the “7 Fundamentals of Woodturning” which he will be sharing with us Monday evening. As always, LCT demos are free and open to the public. We expect a large turnout so come early.

July 2019 LCT Meeting / Demo

Our next demo will be Thursday, July 25th, 6:00 p.m. at the Georgia State Railroad Museum, 655 Louisville Road Savannah. Come early to get your raffle tickets. Roy Yarger will demonstrate how he creates his award winning pepper mills.

Introduction to Woodturning Class – Saturday July 6th

Saturday, July 6th we will be conducting an introduction to woodturning class at our shop on the site of the Georgia State Railroad Museum, 655 Louisville Road, Savannah.  9:00 a.m. to noon.  The cost will be $25 including materials and entrance fee to the Railroad Museum.  If you have an interest, please come on Saturday or contact Dan Lee at danleelowcountryturners@gmail.com
Going forward, we plan on having Woodturning Classes / Open Lathe from 9:00 a.m. until noon on the 1st Saturday of every month. Please keep an eye out for updates each month.  If anyone has an interest in taking a basic woodturning class, this is the perfect opportunity and perfect venue.  More advanced classes may be offered depending on interest.  Advanced classes would generally be in the evening or on an alternate Saturday.  The cost for basic classes will be $25 including materials and entrance to the Railroad Museum.  If you are an LCT member and would like to use one of the clubs lathes on a 1st Saturday morning, come join us. Just remember that you will be required to pay an $8 admission fee to Museum if you are not a CHS member.  Only our Thursday evening monthly demos are exempt from the Museum entrance fee.

April 2019 LCT Meeting / Demo

Our next club demo will be Thursday, April 25th, 6:00 p.m. at our shop at the Railroad Museum, 655 Louisville Road. Please park in the gravel parking lot.. We will have a raffle so come early to get your raffle tickets. Tickets can be purchased from Gary Fleenor at $1 per ticket or 6 tickets for $5.

Roy Yarger will be our April demonstrator. His turned art can be found at the Savannah Art Associations Gallery on Bull Street. Roy’s work has been featured in a national woodturning magazine and he has been the guest demonstrator at several AAW chapters. Often you will find Roy donating his time demonstrating in local schools, making pens for the Freedom Pen Project and making boxes for the Beads of Courage project. The theme for April’s demo revolves around the Beads of Courage project. Roy will be sharing with us several ways to make boxes with lids that fit.

March 2019 LCT Meeting / Demo

Our next demo will be at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, March 28th at the Georgia State Railroad Museum, 655 Louisville Road, Savannah. Please park in the gravel parking lot.

Fundamentals of Spindle Turning is the topic for March. Steve Cook will be our demonstrator. Steve is a past president of the the Lowcountry Turners and is an amazingly skilled wood turner. He just came back from conducting a woodturning workshop at the February Florida Woodturning Symposium. He will be teaching a week long class at the John C. Campbell Folk School this May. In July you will find Steve in Raleigh, NC at the AAW’s National Symposium teaching woodturning fundamentals in the Youth Turning area.

February 2019 LCT Meeting / Demo

Our next demo will be 6:00 p.m. Thursday, February 28th at the Georgia State Railroad Museum, 655 Louisville Road, Savannah. Park in the gravel parking lot. We will be meeting in the very historic “Colored Washroom” building which is the building closest to the parking lot. Lowcountry Turners founder, Noel Wright will be our demonstrator. His topic will be “Fundamentals of Bowl Turning”.

January 2019 LCT Meeting / Demo

Our next demo will be 6:00 p.m. Thursday, January 31st at the Georgia State Railroad Museum, 655 Louisville Road, Savannah. Park in the gravel parking lot. We will be meeting in the building closest to the parking lot. Lowcountry Turners member, Dick Glover, will be discussing and demonstrating the Trent Bosch Hollowing System.

December LCT Meeting / Demo

Our next demo / holiday social will be 6:00 p.m. THURSDAY, December 6th at the Coastal Heritage Society’s (CHS) Georgia State Railroad Museum. WE WILL BE IN OUR NEW BUILDING, 655 Louisville Road, please park in the gravel parking lot. We will be in the very Historic ‘Segregated Colored Washroom’ building which is the one story building attached to the right-hand side of the Roundhouse. We are the closest building to the parking lot and closest to the restrooms. Noel Wright will be our demonstrator. We will have Pizza and cold drinks. We only have 22 chairs right now so we need some of you to bring a chair. Hope to see you there.
